Book Summary
Glimpses of the Joshua Tree Dream, Volume 2: Women of the Mojave

Glimpses of the Joshua Tree Dream, Volume 2 is a photographic and narrative tribute to the women who have chosen to build authentic, creative lives in California’s Hi-Desert. Created by Lisa Schyck, with photography by Bill Leigh Brewer and essays by Zara Kand, the book blends intimate portraits of homes and workspaces with deeply personal stories of resilience, reinvention, and purpose.

Rooted in Schyck’s own journey of recovery, healing, and spiritual reconnection, the book frames Joshua Tree and the Mojave as more than a location—it is a transformative landscape that attracts modern-day pioneers. Each chapter profiles a different woman: artists, entrepreneurs, healers, educators, mothers, activists, and community leaders who live boldly, often outside conventional norms. Their stories explore themes of starting over, manifesting dreams, overcoming loss, honoring family, and giving back to the community.

Through essays and imagery, the book reveals how creativity, home, and work intertwine, highlighting the vulnerability and truth found in how people live day to day. Collectively, these women embody courage, generosity, and soul-driven living. The overarching message is one of inspiration: to trust intuition, embrace change, live authentically, and use one’s life as a force for love, creativity, and positive impact in the world.
